What is ‘the mess experience’?
the mess experience:
A Half-Day Outdoor Summer Program for Curious Kids Ages 3–6 and 5-8! We offer two groupings! Registration opens at 6PM on March 31
The Mess Experience is a 2.5-hour drop-off program designed to spark curiosity and confidence in young children through play-based, outdoor learning. With a focus on sensory fun, science exploration, and big body movement, each day is a new adventure in creativity, discovery, and connection. Children must be 3 or 5 prior to their session.
We embrace the outdoors.
We nurture social-emotional growth.
We meet each child exactly where they are.
Whether it's splashing in puddles, building with natural materials, mixing colours, or exploring STEM concepts with hands-on activities, they are invited to follow their interests while learning through play. The mess-making is individualized, so they can make their mess their own way!

Rain or Shine, we’re outside!
All Are Welcome
Led by both Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Wheeler and often some student helpers, our program is held fully outdoors, with indoor access for washroom use.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What should my child wear?
Children should wear clothing that can get dirty, wet, or muddy, because that’s part of the fun! Dress in weather-appropriate layers including sunhats, and wear closed-toe sandals or rubber boots. We’ll be outside rain or shine.
2. What should my child bring each day?
Please pack the following items in a small, labeled bag:
Weather-appropriate outerwear (e.g., raincoat, sunscreen, sunhat, bug spray)
A full water bottle
A healthy, nut-free snack *other allergies in the group will be communicated to families upon registration
A full change of clothes (including socks and underwear)
A towel
Any life-saving medication and allergy list
All materials for activities will be provided by the program.
3. What happens in bad weather?
We operate rain or shine, and believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing! However, in cases of extreme weather (e.g., lightning, high winds, heat advisories, or poor air quality), activities may be modified, or we may call for early pick-up or cancel the day. No refunds will be issued for single-day cancellations due to weather.
4. Is my child ready for this program?
This program is designed for children aged 3–6 and 5-8. Bathroom independence is not required; however, children should be able to stay without their caregiver for 2.5 hours. If your child is not yet bathroom independent, please pack any required toileting supplies. We approach bathroom support by building trust with each child in our care. If a child would prefer support from their caregiver, caregivers may assist with changes after the session has finished. Our educators are experienced in supporting children with separation anxiety and a range of emotional needs.
5. Who leads the program?
The Mess Experience is led by qualified Early Childhood Educators who specialize in outdoor learning, play-based approaches, and individualized support for each child.
6. How many children are in each group?
Group sizes are small, with a typical ratio of 1 educator per 6–8 children, to ensure safety, connection, and meaningful engagement.
7. What will my child be learning?
Children will explore early science, art, and STEM concepts through sensory-rich, hands-on experiences. They will develop social-emotional skills, problem-solving, creativity, and confidence—all through play.
8. Can I register for more than one session?
Yes! Families are welcome to register for multiple sessions. Each week offers new themes and activities, so the experience stays fresh and exciting.
9. What is your cancellation/refund policy?
A minimum of 3 weeks’ notice is required for a refund (minus the $30 nonrefundable fee).
No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 3 weeks before the session starts.
Single-day cancellations due to weather or environmental conditions will not be refunded.
